The attacks came again after Zulu king, Goodwill Zwelithini, was reported to have said that foreigners "should pack their bags and go back home". The king later denied making those comments but within days the violence had spread to the country's most populous city Johannesburg.
Since the end of apartheid and the opening of South Africa's borders in early 1990s, migrants from all over the world, especially African countries, have flocked to the southern African nation's cities and towns looking to escape the poverty and political intolerance in their home countries.
South Africa has about 2 million documented and undocumented immigrants, which is about 4% of the total population, according to a study by the University of the Witwatersrand. Zimbabweans make up the largest group of immigrants. Also, the country is a top travel destination for wealthy Africans because of its proximity and developed infrastructure.
Victims of xenophobic attacks have been from various African nations, including Nigeria, Somalia and Ethiopia. African nations have condemned the attacks. Kenya, Malawi and Zimbabwe are just a few of the countries evacuating their citizens from South Africa but my own government here is doing nothing, have they even finish taken care of people here before thinking of them in South Africa. In Zambia, local radio station QFM said it will not play South African music in solidarity with the victims.And in Mozambique, South African energy and chemical giant Sasol sent about 340 South African nationals home. The company said Mozambican employees voiced concern about reported violence against their nationals and protested the presence of South African employees in Mozambique.
Most of the attacks have erupted in poor and marginalized areas. Despite the progress the nation has made since its apartheid days, inequality still remains a major concern, according to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
"It is up to the present and next generations to take up the cudgels where you (Mandela) have left off. It is up to them, through service to deepen our democracy; entrench and defend our constitution; eradicate poverty; eliminate inequality; fight corruption, and serve always with compassion, respect, integrity and tolerance," the foundation said in a statement."Xenophobia, racism and sexism must be fought with tenacity, wisdom and enlightenment."
As fears of more attacks grow, South Africans have taken to social media and the streets to protest xenophobia and violence most especially the women because what all their men do is to drink, smoke,party and sex and their sex drive is so low, can even go beyond 10 minutes that's why they bitter because of all the toxic things they taking and south African man don't know how to treat woman. Another South Africa female friends said; south African man don't know the meaning of hard because their stick is never hard. She also added; you can't beat a Nigerian just because I choose to be with him its not by force I'm with him its by choice
The recent one now is at Pretoria West were residents looted and set the homes of foreigners on fire. The properties involved are mostly owned by or occupied by foreigners, and residents believe that they are used to facilitate prostitution and to trade drugs. 10 houses suspected to belong to foreign drug lords and brothel owners were set alight in Rosettenville, south of Johannesburg.
"We are tired of the crime in our area. These Nigerians must take their drugs back to Lagos,” said Charles Ngakula of Pretoria West"
On Saturday afternoon, the police fired rubber bullets at a group of about 300 South Africans. At least seven police vehicles were used to block off WF Nkomo Street and a police helicopter was also involved in the operation.

Later in the afternoon, reporters from City Press’ sister paper Rapport witnessed the same group of people storm the house of a Zimbabwean refugee and begin to plunder it, while a police vehicle passed by without taking any action.Segun Oluwa, an asylum seeker from Nigeria and a resident of a house in Court Street in Pretoria West, said: “At 8am, people stormed into our house and shouted: ‘All foreigners must leave!’”
The men looted the house and set it on fire.
Michael Olakunle, another Nigerian immigrant and a resident in the same house, said: “We didn’t do anything wrong. We don’t deserve what is happening to us. South Africans must watch out. There are also South Africans in Nigeria and we will do the same to them there.”
Oluwa and his housemates said the police witnessed what was happening, but didn’t do anything about it.
Inside some of the homes that were looted, dirty mattresses covered the floors and packets of condoms were stuffed in drawers.
Two half-naked women sat outside another home with the word ‘Dollhouse’ painted on the front wall.
“There are immigrants who own brothels and sell drugs, but not all foreigners are bad,” said Memory Vilakazi. She is a South African, but was also chased out of her home.
“South Africans wanted to plunder it [my home] because it belongs to a Congolese national. They don’t like it when foreigners own property.”
Captain Augustinah Selepe, a police spokesperson, said two complaints of arson and one complaint of public violence had been lodged with the police. At the time of going to press, no arrests had been made.
What the South African Citizens actually want is to have all Africa foreigners deported, especially Nigerians and the country hard now. Who want come country wey leaders don't care about the welfare of the poor citizens?
